Inter-Continental Area Network (ICAN)

In high-frequency trading, milliseconds can make the difference between profit and missed opportunity, yet intercontinental trades are still constrained by the physical limits of today’s terrestrial and fibre-based infrastructure. Nanocraft, a Latvian space-tech start-up, is developing a dedicated satellite network for financial trading, designed for the shortest possible data routes between global financial markets - using the vacuum properties of space to reduce the time it takes to move data between continents. Unlike general-purpose satellite constellations built for coverage and bandwidth, Nanocraft’s system is being designed around a narrow, high-value use case where speed, predictable routing and route-specific performance matter more than mass-market capacity. With early market interest from Gravity Team and support from ESA BIC and ERDF co-funding, the project is currently in concept validation at the ESA BIC Latvia incubator.
